Plan your Easter vacation in Cancun or the Riviera Maya and visit Xel Ha Park, which is located only 122 km away, on the Riviera Maya. You can take a bus towards Tulum and ask the driver to drop you off at Xel Ha Park. Another practical way to go to Xel Ha Park is taking one of the tours to Xel Ha or rent a car. If you come from Cozumel, the only way is by taking the ferry across to Playa del Carmen. The bus station in Playa del Carmen is only two blocks from the pier and there are buses that go straight to Xel Ha Park.
Xel Ha Park is one of the archaeological sites of Mayan civilization, in Mexico. According to Mayan legend, the gods made this site in Mexic0, they called Xel Ha which had the macaw, parrot fish and iguana as its guardians assigned (heaven, earth and water) respectively. During pre-Hispanic times, the Mayans used Xel Ha Park, as an important trading port between the communities of the region.
Today, Xel Ha is a popular water park that offers a wide variety of activities in beautiful natural scenery. The underground river flows through the mangroves into the Bay of Caprices (Bahía de Caprichos) where you can explore its majestic flora and fauna while snorkeling. Beside the river you will find La Piedra del Valor, a five feet stone wall from where the brave jump into the water. You can enjoy the river floating on an inner tube by letting the current take you subtly towards the cove (La Caleta), you can also relax in one of the beaches located on the edge.
Have a lot of fun testing your balance on Trepachanga bridge (50 mts long) that is suspended from two ropes over the River.

Another exciting activity you can do at Xel Ha Park is sailing through the Laguna Negra (Black Lagoon) on a kayak. You can see iguanas, coati, and fish of all sizes and colors through this journey.
